Restricting Food Waste, Dubai Inaugurates An Affordable Food App

Keepeat, a Dubai based app has come up with a platform to prevent food from any wastage.

Trader’s House eatery located in the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) will be the app’s first partner. The initiative is to help ease the growing environmental problem.

Emirati and Swedish entrepreneurs jointly started Keepeat, promoting health authority regulations and saving on their meals.

There will be options in the food items and the food will be available at discounted prices, where a minimum of 50% will be given with the app. The costumers can pick up the food at the time specifies at the app and pick up the food.

According to a statement, the food good enough to be sold will be sold and any food that has passed the allowed hours will never be up for sale.

 Ena Basic, CEO of Keepeat said, “Keepeat is a platform to enable retailers to minimize food waste, while consumers can save the food instead of letting it goes to waste.”

“The value of wasted food in the UAE amounts to around AED13 billion ($3.5 billion) each year, while the cost of discarding food in Dubai alone totals AED282 million.”

“We are excited to partner with Keepeat in rolling out Trader’s House as our first outlet here at DWTC,” said Andrew Cullen, director at DWTC. “As a keen supporter of this cause, we are determined to continue our journey through this partnership, and set a positive example in addressing the issue of surplus food in the UAE.”
