The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh will have the first cinema complex.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), a subsidiary of the Development and Investment Entertainment Company (DIEC) in collaboration with US-based AMC Entertainment are launching Saudi Arabia’s first public cinema this week.
The King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) in Riyadh will have the first cinema complex.
A statement said DIEC and AMC Entertainment will commemorate the historic moment with a gala event on Wednesday, hosting prominent local and international guests.
In the launch event a Hollywood blockbuster will be shown, the name of which will be announced later this week and it will be a private screening.
The statement added, it is the first in a series of invitation-only screenings that will be held during April.
The cinema is opening for the public in May, and the tickets to public show times are going on sale by the end of this month through an online ticketing system.
The rest three screens at KAFD’s theatre will open in the third quarter of 2018. The theatre would stage the beginning of a new partnership that could see 40 or more AMC Cinemas complexes open in the Gulf kingdom over the next five years.
The association between DIEC and AMC Entertainment will prior a key objective of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 to grow the entertainment sector.
DIEC said it aims to invest up to SR10 billion in entertainment projects by 2030.
