Cleartrip’s 2017 travel insights report says 31 percent of total bookings in Saudi Arabia were purchased through mobile devices, compared to 69 percent were made through desktops.
While in the UAE, the percentage increased by 60.65 in mobile transactions last year. The total bookings placed on mobile devices were 25 percent and rest 75 percent on desktop.
Riyadh has the highest rate of mobile booking penetration, with 32 percent of total purchases made on mobile devices, followed by Jeddah, with 31 percent.
The report also showed a clear correlation between the number of travelers per ticket and the platform used for booking, with computers being increasingly preferred as the number of travelers increased.
The bookings that were made through mobile were 27 percent for solo travelers, compared to 83 percent of reservations that were made through desktops were for groups of 10 or more made.
The findings also show that majority of travel bookings in the GCC, particularly in Saudi Arabia, take place within a week of departure, with mobile in last-minute purchases.
Whereas in Saudi Arabia, 48.3 percent of travel bookings are made on mobile devices and 44.9 percent are done through desktop.
Dubai was found to be the most popular destination for travelers in 2017, followed by Sharjah, Manila, and Abu Dhabi.
