Hypermarkets chain Lulu is expanding majorly in the Middle East. The chain which is a part of the UAE’s leading retailer EMKE Group recently opened five new locations in Abu Dhabi, Ghayati, Bahrain and Oman. Lulu already has total of 99 stores in the region. It will soon launch its 100th store in the RAK mall in Ras Al Khaimah. Moreover, the group is investing over Dh1.5 billion in 2012 into these new projects. It is looking to open its first Lulu Shopping Mall in Kochi in the near future, marking the brand’s foray into the Indian retail market. With these new openings, EMKE is aiming to consolidate its front runners position in Gulf retail sector along with expand its store network in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. EMKE is also affirming its smaller Express concept of convenience stores across the Middle East. It recently launched three Lulu Express stores in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Fujairah to increase the count of the Express stores to six.
