Giordano, the Hong Kong-based clothing retailer has established a new facility in Jebel Ali Free Zone in Dubai, UAE. The new facility set up as part of company’s aggressive Middle Eastern expansion strategy will support Giordano’s new franchise partners. Presently, the retailer has outlets in 40 countries across the world, of which 23 are in the Middle East region. Now, its Middle East operation plans to add franchisees in five to six countries every year across Africa, Eastern Europe and central Asia. Apart from inquiries from within Asia or the Asia-Pacific region which will be processed by the company's Hong Kong HQ, Jebel Ali will handle everything else. Initially, the Jebel Ali facility will start on a small scale at 15,000 sq ft, but will have the capacity to scale up and will include a logistics centre. It will cost USD 5 million (Dh18.36m) and will have enough merchandise at the unit for any market that requires it. Furthermore, the management team based at the facility will be providing operational support to current and future partners.
